Eco-Stay

Student Accommodation Build

University campuses need small spaces for students who need short term stay as a matter of emergency or for attending academic events at the university. This project - student dormitory - can be thought of as an alternative to conventional student housing. It was required to undertake technical planning and design study, using modular systems of construction and planning. The build must include student accommodation and facilities, entry lobby, elevators, stairs and shared spaces (library, meal rooms, studio rooms and seminar rooms). In particular, the project can maximize the effective use of basic modules; each has the internal measurement ranging from 2400-2700 mm (Height); 2500-3300 mm (Width) and 6000-9000 mm (Length). The design was to be functional while also being aesthetically pleasing for a university campus while adopting sustainable building techniques and practices.

The focus of this assignment for myself was to create a building for students that was appealing, inviting and also stylish while meeting their study needs. Student accommodation can be rather bland and simple, by adding style and interest it will boost the mental health of residents, inviting them to interact and get involved within the community. It was important to me to include a central void as it allows for natural light, air ventilation and vegetation which all positively contributes to not only the Eco star rating of the building but also as mentioned earlier - the mental state of occupants and visitors.
